ASDN Lead Indicators – measures of preventative actions

Unlike ‘lag’ data which examine failures of a WHS system (e.g. deaths or injuries), ‘lead’ data measure factors that will prevent and/or reduce the severity of an incident (e.g. having all guards on moving machinery parts or doing induction sessions for new workers). But very few lead indicators on farm are currently measured – stronger data will provide better insights for interventions to achieve safer agriculture.
The ASDN is building capacity with a research project on lead indicators that involves the whole project team and a PhD candidate.
This has involved a systematic literature review, Delphi discovery phase, and a current pilot with farms. Results to come…
